Un-compress this file and go inside Shared Files Licensing folder. Here, there is a 'student.lic' file. Take this file and replace the one in your current installation (default is C: Program Files ANSYS Inc ANSYS Student Shared Files Licensing student.lic) Let us know if this helps. In the initial installation window, click Install ANSYS License Manager and install the Licensing Management tool. After installation is complete, click Next and wait for the License Wizard window to appear; select the first and default option and click Continue. Then, file the license.txt file in the previous step and click Continue a few times.
Lately my Student Licence for Ansys Software ran out. I am still a student, so I want to refresh it – is that possible without installing the current Version of ANSYS?
I did not find the right page to look for Licence Information. Does anyone know which steps are to follow to get a new one?

Hi Jasmina92,
You don't need to install a new version but you would have to download the new installation package which would includes extended license file.
Once you have the package, unzip it, and go to 'student' folder. You will see 'WINX64.7z' in here. Un-compress this file and go inside Shared FilesLicensing folder. Here, there is a 'student.lic' file. Take this file and replace the one in your current installation (default is C:Program FilesANSYS IncANSYS StudentShared FilesLicensingstudent.lic)

I downloaded and replaced the student.lic - file exactly as you described. Unfortunately, when starting a project in Ansys, there still appears an license-error ('no licenses are available at this time').
Is there anything further I have to do?

Let's test if the new license works using the command line.
Open CMD Prompt, then issue the entire following two commands (change your installation path accordingly)
'C:Program FilesANSYS IncANSYS StudentShared FilesLicensingwinx64ansysli_util' -checkout aa_t_i
'C:Program FilesANSYS IncANSYS StudentShared FilesLicensingwinx64ansysli_util' -checkout aa_s_aim
Then post the screenshots of the output message from these two commands here.

I changed the path in the two commands.
As you can see the ansys_student_xxx.lic - file is not up to date. But I can't remember where I got this folder the last time... (It lies right next to the last download: ANSYSACADEMICSTUDENT_182_WINX64)This is the cmd-answer

I think you misunderstood my instructions earlier and you are doing it in opposite. I'm talking about this part

Once you extract the WINX64.7z , you would have a student.lic file under C:UsersJasminaDocumentsANSYSACADEMICSTUDENT_192_WINX64Shared FilesLicensing.
What you should do here is to move this student.lic file to replace the one inside your current installation directory (default location) C:Program FilesANSYS IncANSYS StudentShared FilesLicensing
That should update the license for your currently installed v18.2.
On a separate note, I notice that you have the 'update' folder under <install_dir>shared fileslicensingwinx64 . This folder shouldn't exist if the installation is successful. Please take the screenshot of the content of this 'update' folder as well as the content of the <install_dir>shared fileslicensingwinx64 folder and post it here. Make sure that it shows the 'Date Modified' of each file.

Hello Win,
thank you for the explaination but I'm sure I did it the right way: download the new 19.2 version, unzip the winx64 and copy this license and replace the old one in the 18.2-folders.
the content of the licensing-folder (19.2) is:
in the winx64-folder is just one folder: shared files. In that is one folder: licensing. and there lies the .lic - file
Then I replaced the .lic-file in the 'old' folder:
its now the same new one.
I found one 'update' folder in a folder named 'license', is that the one you meant that? Maybe I used the wrong path before (see above, the first folder of the path was 'student')

Thanks for the info. Those screenshots help a lot.
However, those are 'installation package' directories. I don't think your ANSYS Student v18.2 is installed under these directories.
You can check your currently installed ANSYS v18.2 directory by open CMD Prompt, then type 'set AWP_ROOT182' without the quotation ' ' , this will show you the path.
Then, what I meant on my first post is to replace the 'student.lic' file inside this path
For example, your AWP_ROOT182 is C:Program FilesANSYS IncANSYS Studentv182
then your student.lic would be under C:Program FilesANSYS IncANSYS StudentShared FilesLicensing
Also, once you replace it, the commands that I asked you to run earlier, should also be run under this directory, e.g.,
'C:Program FilesANSYS IncANSYS StudentShared FilesLicensingwinx64ansysli_util' -checkout aa_t_i
'C:Program FilesANSYS IncANSYS StudentShared FilesLicensingwinx64ansysli_util' -checkout aa_s_aim

You can use student.lic from any version that still have valid license. So, you can just follow steps here
