Had one, bought used. They cut real good. To do any work on the gears, bearings, etc in the cutterbar requires that cutterbar housing be taken completely apart. Do not overfill the cutterbar with oil. If over filled, pressure will build up and it will blow seals under the cutterheads. To replace seal requires taking the cutterbar apart as I said. To check oil, park with cutterbar locked upright overnight. Remove filler plug. Oil should be barely visible. If oil flows out, let it drain until it gets to the filler plug level. Mine eventually had a leaking seal in the gearbox which let the gearbox oil get into the cutterbar which caused seal problems, so watch oil level in gearbox. To check oil in box, lower the cutterbar and remove filler plug in gearbox, oil should be level with opening.
There is a shear bolt in the hitch frame which is supposed to break when hitting an obstruction. I found that it would break on its own after after some use, so I just periodically changed the bolt.
The cutterbar is a little weak where it is bolted on to the gearbox so tighten the bolts periodically. Same for bolts that hold the gearbox together.
The bearing behind the big pulley is sealed and may give out so keep an eye on it.
I would change the oil in the gear box and cutterbar once a season. 80-90 gear oil is fine.
To lift with a chain: With the cutterbar flat, loop one end of the chain around the cutterbar about halfway out. I think you have to fold one side of the curtain carrier up. Loop the other end of the chain around a convenient place on the frame taking care not to crush the belt guard. Take the pto shaft off first and put it in your truck. You will have to experiment and
find a balance point. The cutterbar will fold up part way, just keep experimenting.
Like I said, they cut like a dream. The knives are reversible. The bolts that hold the knives on probably will need replacing when you reverse them.
Good luck.

Today's Featured Article - A Question for Dads This recent topic from the Tractor Talk discussion board is being highlighted because it is an awesome display of the caliber of individuals that have made this site their own. The young person asking questions received positive feedback and advice from total strangers who 'told it like it is' with the care many reserve for their own kids. The advice is timeless... so although it isn't necessarily antique tractor related, it will be prominently displayed in our archives to honor those who have the courage to ask and those who have the courage to respond in an honest, positive manner. ...
